Paddy Dempsey
My research interests are currently focused on the role of physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and diet (including their interacting effects) in the prevention/management of chronic diseases – particularly type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. I interrogate these topics using large epidemiological datasets, meta-research, and through human intervention/clinical trials. I joined the Diabetes Research Centre in 2020, but continue to work in close collaboration with several groups, including the Physical Activity, Behavioural Epidemiology and Metabolic and Vascular Physiology laboratories (Baker Heart & Diabetes Institute, Australia) and the Physical Activity Epidemiology Programme (Cambridge University, UK) – where I conducted my PhD and postdoc studies.
Favourite way to be active
Outside, exploring, for fun, or embedded into my commute (walking/running/cycling/gym).
